PHOTO: FENWAY PARK STRIPED FOR THE BOSTON PATRIOTS VS OAKLAND RAIDERS FOOTBALL GAME, PRUDENTIAL CENTER UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN BACKGROUND, OCTOBER, 1963. The Patriots were not always the powerhouse they are today! In the 1960s, their home field moved from location to location, with their longest stint at Fenway Park! This is a view of Fenway Park converted for use as a football field with 10-yard line markings and field goals. The baseball infield is visible in the foreground. The crew is working on temporary stands in left field. From the Herald-Traveler Photo Collection of the Boston Public Library. Caption in the Herald (October 10, 1963) read: “New look for Fenway Park is football field laid out for tomorrow night’s American Football League game with Patriots hosting Oakland Raiders." The Patriots won that game, played on October 11, 20-14. This was the first game the Patriots (then known as the Boston Patriots of the AFL) ever played at Fenway Park, and Fenway continued to be the Patriot's home field through the 1968 season. The Prudential Center is under construction in the background. This is a new 12" x 18" glossy black & white photo. Photograph will be rolled and shipped in a tube.
