Selling one Special Limited Edition 12" (1/6 scale) GI Joe General George Washington, the Second in the Commemorative Independence Day Holiday Series made in 1998. This is a New figure that has never been displayed. It has always been kept in a plastic storage container in a pet and smoke free home. I used to sell these at shows and I am clearing out the rest of my inventory. The box has never been opened and is in excellent condition with minimal corner and edge wear. General Washington is a fully posable 12" action figure wearing a an elaborate felt coat and vest with gold-tone metal buttons, tan cloth knickers with gold-tone studs on the side, black and tan riding boots and authentic hat. He is holding a sword that fits in a sheath worn on a blue ribbon sash across his shoulder. Also included is a 13-star flag with stand, a map of the York river area, folding map table, musket and telescoping lens. The following is printed inside: "George Washington was one of the few men in all of human history who was not carried away by power." - Robert Frost "...He hopes therefore, every man's mind and arms, will be prepared for action, and when called to it, show our enemies, and the whole world, that Freemen contending on their own land, are superior to any mercenaries on earth" - General Orders, August 20, 1776 Commander in Chief of the Continental army during the American Revolution, and later the first President of the United States, George Washington stands a colossus in American history. Rejected as a British officer at age twenty-four, by age forty-two the once loyal British subject had become its number one enemy. A dedicated man in possession of a unique combination of principals, he fit his generation so perfectly as to become the Founding Father of the United States and one of the greatest men of his time. George Washington saw his first military service in 1754 as a volunteer aid-de-camp under the British general Edward Braddock. Washington became well regarded as a soldier and even gained some renown for his bravery under fire. In one legendary incident preceding the French Indian War, two groups of Virginia militiamen stumbled upon each other in the woods and mistakenly opened fire. Washington rode between opposing lines knocking away guns on either side with his sword. Fourteen were killed, twenty-six wounded. Washington went unscathed. In 1755 he was made colonel and appointed to command the Virginia militia, charged with the defense of the long western frontier of the colony. At the end of the war between France and Britain he returned home a hero but was rejected for commission as a full British officer. Disgusted, he resigned from the militia in protest. When fighting broke out between Massachusetts colonists and the British in 1775, George Washington boldly arrived at Congress outfitted in full military dress to symbolize his support for American independence. John Adams nominated Washington for the position of Commander in Chief of the newly created Continental Army. The election was unanimous. In his new job, Washington became a masterful juggler. He could simultaneously appeal to a Congress short on funds and an often disgruntled and poorly outfitted military. When it came to the business of battle, Washington was brilliantly courageous. He would lead charges on horseback, willfully exposing himself to musket and cannon fire. He would stand tall amidst heavy British cannon fire, studying their defenses while all others dove for cover. He would stroll through a hail of shot and make solo sorties -and not once did a bullet or shrapnel so much as graze him. He seemed indifferent to danger, and myths of invincibility began to surround him. In 1781, Washington marched a Franco-American army of 7,000 troops from New York State to Virginia in less than 5 weeks in an effort to finally crush Commander Cornwallis and his forces.
