12" TALL INUIT ESKIMO SCULPTURE SIGNED BY ROSS PARKINSON SOAPSTONE. THIS IS A HEAVY PIECE 12" TALL BY 7". IN GOOD VINTAGE CONDITION. IT HAS A LOT OF SCRATCHES ON IT THIS ESKIMO HAS A SEAL WITH A LEATHER STRAP ON HIS BACK. A NICE LARGE PIECE. AND SIGNED BY ARTIST ROSS PARKINSON. THIS IS WHAT I FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS ARTIST. THIS PIECES IS SOLD AS IS IT HAS SCRATCHES NO CRACKS A RARE SIZE. SOLD AS IS PLEASE LOOK AT ALL PICTURES BEFORE BIDDING. Ross and Mark Parkinson are Canadian artists specializing in soapstone sculpture. A father and son team, they live and work in Phillipsburg, Quebec, a small town near the American border. Mark, the elder, initially sculpted in wood but switched to soapstone in the early 1970' . In 1977 a piece of his work was presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The sculpture, titled "Fun and Games" , was presented to her visit to Canada on the occasion of her 25th Jubilee. It is presently on display in Buckingham Palace. Ross, who has been sculpting for 18 years, began his career in the early teens. While attending high school he apprenticed part time with his father. Before long Ross was exhibiting exceptional carving skills and subsequently took his place by his father' side.
