This is an excellent opportunity to own a beautiful example of Haida Tsimshian and Kwakiutl Tribal Artwork found in the Nootka region. The Totem is classic representation of Shaman's upon the Bear spirit Chet-Woot (sic) holding Eh-Kolie (The Whale).Description: 13" Tall Museum grade example of a 13" Tall Haida Tsimshian and Kwakiutl Tribe Carved Totem. Pre 1920's or 30's. Wood has been identified as old growth Northwest Cedar with very tight rings, sectioned at 120-150 yearsBase measures 3.25" by 3.23"Base Inscription says: "Top figures are three medicine men (Shaman) representing Haida's Tsimsyan and Kwakiutl Tribes. Next figure is the Bear (Chet-Woot) respected by all Indians for his strength and cunning. He is holding "Eh-Kolie" the Killer Whale who is ruler of all the Seas and Oceans."The letters on the inscription appear to have been made via mechanical printing means (predating photocopy or modern printing methods)
