Excellent for classroom projects!** 15 uncleaned AE4 Roman Bronze coins 13-16mm. - all of these coins are smaller than a US dime which is 18mm.. You never know what to expect with the small coins! Do all this at a price that can be affordable for most. **This lot is geared to do just that -- give you nice results at a decent starting price.** *** Quick Tips *** The designation AE 4 indicates this lot of smaller Bronze coins which usually range in size from approximately 13mm. to 17mm. For comparison sake, a US Dime is 18mm. and a US Penny is 20mm. Generally speaking, the smaller coins are from later in the Roman Empire when metals used in minting began to become scarce. Try to avoid overcleaning your ancient coins. Shiny and bright works fine for pennies, but not ancient coins. They were made over 1,500 years ago --- they're supposed to look old. Add a very small amount of a water softener, such as Calgon, to the distilled water your coins are soaking in. Soak for a few hours, remove, rinse and then soak them overnight in distilled water only. This helps in loosening the dirt and encrustations! Inexpensive toothbrushes work very well for cleaning ancient coins. Buy two with Medium hardness and cut the bristles on one of them down about halfway.
