155 Issues TELEGRAPHE & DAILY ADVERTISER Baltimore 1804 A terrific half year run of early Baltimore newspapers, The Telegraphe and Daily Advertiser. Published in Baltimore by Thomas Dobbin, July 2 through December 31, 1804. Generally in very good condition, excepting occasional edge chipping and staining, left edges trimmed and all pages are separated. Includes news from the United States Congress; lots of ship news including wrecks and losses as well as arrivals and departures in the Port of Baltimore; lots of ads including for slaves wanted and for sale and runaways; occasional interesting woodcuts including of an umbrella maker, Orphan's Lottery, Catholic Cathedral Church Lottery, a globe maker, and a few rare woodcuts with ads of an early tetd balloon operator offering flights/rides up to 24 feet above the ground; fires; numerous columns on the impeachment trial of Judge Samuel Chase; protection of U.S. ports & harbors, the bombardment of Tripoli and news from the squadron at Tripoli; a strange account of an unusual natural phenomenon near Kingston (Ontario?) and the "Black River", in which heavy black clouds formed and then over the course of the next hour a large "globe" rose out of the ground and ascended into the sky on Sept. 19, 1804 (sounds almost like a UFO sighting!); petition to Congress for a land grant in Louisiana read more
