A VERY COLLECTABLE, SILVER HISTORICAL MEDAL 310 YEAR OLD Silver official medal distributed by the Treasurer of the Household at the coronation of Queen Anne on 23 April 1702. Only 1,200 were issued. Date of issue: 1702 Reason for issue: THE OFFICIAL CORONATION MEDAL OF QUEEN ANNE Obverse description: Bust of Anne looking left, with hair bound in fillet and lovelock on the right shoulder, her gown fastened with brooch in front. Legend: ANNA . D : G : MAG : BR : FRA : ET . HIB : REGINA.( Anne, by the grace of God, Queen of Great Britain, France and Ireland). Reverse description: Anne, as Pallas, hurls thunder against a double-headed, four-armed monster who is holding clubs and stones and whose lower limbs terminate in snakes. Legend: VICEM GERIT . ILLA . TONANTIS. (She is the Vice-regent of the Thunderer.) (As making sounds she conducts herself). Exergue: INAUGURAT . XXIII . AP . MDCCII. (Crowned, 23 April, 1702.) Maker: John Croker who was the Tower Mint Medallist at that time. Croker executed four pairs of dies for the above medal, all slightly varying but this is the official coronation medal.
