Up for bids is this museum quality, antique original art by well known realism and maritime painter James Hardy.The original oil painting on board displays incredibly detailed paint brush work w/ vivid colors present in this 125+ year old maritime work. Biography James Hardy II James Hardy, Jr. (1832-1889) His father was the landscape painter James Hardy, Sr. and his brother was Heywood Harris. A painter of rustic landscapes and hunting scenes, Hardy specialized in sporting scenes depicting dogs and game, usually set in highland scenery. He also, painted a number of maritime scenes depicting ships of the British Line. He painted both in oil and watercolor and exhibited regularly, at the Royal Academy between 1862 and 1886, the British Institution, the Suffolk Street Gallery and the New Watercolor Society of which he became a member in 1877.He lived all his life in Bristol and died there on April 4, 1889. Sales of Hardy's works were held at Christies on March 9, 1878 and also, after his death on April 4, 1889. Source: The 8 X 10 painting is in excellent, museum quality condition.
