The Book of Martyrs: containing an account of the sufferings & death of the Protestants in the reign of Queen Mary the First . Illustrated with Copperplates. Originally written by Mr. John Fox ; now carefully revised & corrected by an impartial hand . [Foxe's Book of Martyrs] London : Published and Sold by John Hart and John Lewis, 17 32. A LARGE EARLY 1700S FOLIO EDITION of FOXE'S MARTYRS WITH OVER 30 FULL PAGE LEAVES of ENGRAVINGS, 6 FOLDING. An extremely scarce Book of Martyrs in full 1 5" tall Folio ( 10 " wide). In original boards, boards with stamped borders, some rounding to corners, scuffed a bit and rubbd but in decent shape. Spine expertly rebacked, lightly worn, with raised bands, gilt title, as shown. This Martyrs presents itself very well . Complete . Pages in great shape minus some lig ht foxing & light edgewear in a few pla ces, first few Eps with creasing, also a n ownership inscription of F. Jenkins Maidstone on the title , else bound and unmarked. The bulk of the volume is clean and unmarked with scattered very light foxing. Again, heavily illustrated with many woodcuts of the various deaths and tortures of the martyrs, over 30 total with 6 folding, as well as engraved title and dual frontis, as shown.
