The volume is the a question book about the Schwenkfelder catechism / Catechismus of the Schwenkfelders, written by Christoph Schultz. Text in German. The title page reads in part: "Kurze Fragen ueber die Christliche Glaubens-Lehre. Nach Heil. Schrift-Zeugniss beantwortet und bewähret. Den Christlichen Glaubens-Schülern zu einem anfänglichen Unterricht nützlich zu gebrauchen. Philadelphia, Gedrukt bey Carl Cist, , in der Zwenten = Strasse. 1784." It is 12mo (6 1/4 X 3 3/4 inches); hardcover; leather; full speckled calf on boards; raised bands on spine; wear to edges & bands; spine edges starting to split but boards still secure; boards lightly scratched & rubbed; small nicks to surface of boards & spine; previous owner's name inside front board; ; age toning & scattered foxing spots throughout; small damp stain on fore-edge of few pages; text block tight; [10], 140 pages. The book is a scarce publication. There are only four other original printings available for sale on internet book searches (ABE, ILAB, etc...) which are being offered for $245.00; $325.00; $350.00; and $900.00. The book is listed in "The First Century of German Printing in America, 1728-1830," # 610 and in Charles Evans' "American Bibliography: A Chronological Dictionary of All Books, Pamphlets, and Periodical Publications Printed in the United States of America
