It could be a later restrike, however, we have no way to date the paper but from the toning of the parchment and the print we believe it to be at the very least 18th century. We are not experts though so please understand we are doing our best to provide you with as accurate information as possible. The print is signed as being done by Anthonie Wierix (Antwerp, c. 1552-1624) after an original work by Maerten deVos. We have provided more info on both artists below so please continue scrolling!This print is said to be plate 1 from The Story of Samson published in Antwerp published by Gerard de Jode (Dutch, 1509-1591). Samson kneels before an altar where a lamb is being sacrificed as an Angel hovers over it. To his right is a female, we are guessing it's Dellilah. Behind them is a beautiful landscape. All three signatures are present as part of the print. We have seen record of t...keep scrolling there are 21 pictures and more description beneath the photos below!his print in galleries that are asking $1200 for it.This has a sight measurement of approx. 11" x 8 1/4" and in the matte (it does not come with a frame) it's approx. 12" x 16 1/8". This came with a sheet of plastic between the matte and the print that must have at one time been glued to the inside of the matte as there is an orange residue on the left side when you lift the front of the matte. This residue is also showing a little bit on the left side of the print. There is toning throughout and if you look at the print from the back you can see the darker spots more than you see them from the front (which is great because you're not going to display it backwards!) He became, together with the brothers Ambrosius Francken I and Frans Francken I, one of the leading history painters in the Spanish Netherlands after Frans Floris' career slumped in the second half of the sixteenth century as a result of the Iconoclastic fury of the Beeldenstorm.De Vos was a prolific draughtsman and produced numerous designs for the Antwerp printersHere is some interesting family history about the engraver as found on Web Gallery of Art's site (Great site!):Flemish family of artists. The family workshop was active mainly in Antwerp in the last quarter of the 16th century and the first quarter of the 17th. Anthonie Wierix the Elder (c. 1522-c. 1572) was a painter and engraver, his three sons, Anthonie the Younger (c. 1555/9-1604), Hieronymus (c. 1553-1619), and Jan (1549-1618), were trained as engravers in their father's studio. The three brothers began to engrave complex designs when they were still very young, and their precocity was accentuated by the declaration of their ages on their engravings. Hieronymus copied Dürer's St George when he was 12 and his St Jerome when he was 13; similarly, Jan copied Marcantonio Raimondi's Venus and Cupid at 14 and Dürer's Fall of Man at 16.
