We are pleased to offer for auction this wonderful Primitive 1800's 12 Tin Pie Safe in Old Style Blue and Mustard Paint. This dates from about 1870 and is made from Southern Heart Pine and Poplar. This pie safe has 12 tins. Pie Safes with their pierced tins helped keep pies, breads and other baked goods safe from flies and varmints and also provide ventilation to help prevent spoiling. This pie safe is pegged and square nailed. The doors are pegged and mortised. This pie safe has three shelves, each one is a single board and Southern Heart Pine. The pie safe is in Old Style Blue, which isn't old but painted, aged and oxidized to a seemingly authentic surface. It still has its original great patina. The tins are painted in Old Style Mustard. These are the original 12 tins. A star and heart design was originally started but never completed in all twelve tins so I completed the piercing by hand in the same stars and hearts. The top of the pie safe is in original surface. This pie safe measures 43 3/4" tall x 41" 1/4 wide x 18 3/4" deep. There is a minor age crack in the left upper door frame that has been repaired. This pie safe is in strong and sturdy condition and ready to be used for a lot of storage today as it did 140 years ago! This is a great Primitive Southern Americana Pie Safe in Blue and Mustard Paint ! You are welcome to
