We are pleased to offer for auction this Original 1860's Primitive Hanging Pie Safe in Old Mustard Paint over Original Salmon Paint with No Reserve! This is a hard-to-find Pie Safe. The paint is wonderful, old Mustard over original Salmon. It has one door and three deep shelves for cooling and keeping pies and other baked goods high up off the floor and out of reach from crawling bugs and varmints. The screening protected pies from insects while allowing air to circulate through. The original screening has been restored with old screen, the tacks are original. The salmon paint is original, the old mustard was painted over top at some point long ago. The top still shows the original salmon paint as can be seen in the picture. The blue paint on the frame of the door is not old but looks authentic. The wooden latch is original. This pie safe is pegged and square nailed. It measures 34 1/2"w x 30"h x 21'd. The pie safe can be hung as originally intended or placed on a table or blanket chest. It works well in a kitchen for added storage for dishes or as a pantry, but it can be creatively and functionally be used anywhere in the home.
