This item is a wonderful,original document dated 1815, Fort Constitution, w a young lieutenant named John A Dix started his military career as adjutant Corps of Artillery. This document signed by Dix, shows the landing of a corps of artillery at the Fort, oh and by the way, t also was "one woman" that came with the group......A very rare,early document from the long career of General John A Dix; 4x8,fine condition. The fort was repaired, renamed Fort Constitution and garrisoned with a company of United States artillery. Renovations, which included a wall twice as high as that of the colonial fort and new brick buildings, were completed in 1808. It is the ruins of this fort that are seen today. John Adams Dix (July 24, 1798 - April 21, 1879) was an American politician from New York. He served as Secretary of the Treasury, U.S. Senator, and Governor.
