Please see photos at top left with zoom and enlargement features Here offered: American Scenery; or, Land, Lake, and River Illustrations of Transatlantic Nature From drawings by W. H. Bartlett, engraved in the first style of the art, by R. Wallis, J. Cousen, Willmore, Brandard, Adlard, Richardson, &c. Two Volumes. By N.P. Willis George Vertue, London, 1840 First Edition Each volume measures 10.75 x 8.5 inches Vol.I: iv, 140 pp plus plates. Vol.II: [vi], 106 pp plus plates. Complete in two volumes. Half morocco on marbled boards with tips lightly rubbed, raised bands, gilt titles and vignettes to spine. No inscriptions or former owners' names or bookplates though it appears a former owner cut out his name from the front endpaper of each volume. This vacancy of paper has been addressed by a professional restorer and the result is sympathetic; the least appealing is shown above. All hinges are fully secure and are original. All 120 engravings are present tissue guarded, as well as the map and the portrait of Bartlett. None is loose or torn, no water staining, and the customary foxing is, when present, generally marginal and unobtrusive: most plates are free of foxing. A remarkable set in contemporary fine bindings. Collation by US state, with actual volume and read more
