1843 Columbia, Arkansas stampless folded letter Great Cotton Plantation Content Writes an early founder of Rodney, Mississippi Excellent early plantation owner content in this detailed 2 page stampless folded letter written November 27, 1843 by (last name Carter) in Columbia, Arkansas and sent to his friend and business associate Mr. Hatter Nutt - one of the first settlers in the historic river town of Rodney, Mississippi. This letter was posted only 8 years after Arkansas Territory became a state. Writer talks rather extensively about his cotton plantation operations, growing conditions, tough times, but optimistic about selling bales to Europe at $30 a bale. Link below references Mr. Nutt in early Rodney. /wiki/Rodney,_Mississippi Postmark is a red Columbia, Ark CDS with an 18 3/4 cents manuscript rate mark. This letter would have almost certainly traveled aboard an early Mississippi River steamer from Arkansas to Rodney. Letter fully intact and in great shape. Terms $1.00 postage in the United States, and only $ 2.00 elsewhere. We combine postage for multiple purchases. Postal insurance and registration extra.
