DESCRIPTION: Coverlet collectors are always looking for early DATED Americana folk art coverlets. This was a wonderful find. FYI: Coverlets were made of linen or wool during the 19th century. Most of the coverlets date from 1800 to the 1880s. The earliest coverlets were created on narrow looms, so to find two woven strips joined together is not uncommon. Many early coverlets were also made on larger size looms, thus no seam or joining. The weave structures of coverlets can include summer and winter, double weave, overshot, and others. JACQUARD coverlets (which this coverlet is) have elaborate patterns, they are usually "one of a kind" creations that were created on special looms with the use of a special attachment. Description: This beautiful coverlet measures 84" long (not including the fringe) x 72" across. It is a fine example of an early PA. read more
