__1852 California Gold - Larger sized coin/token__ This is a brilliant uncirculated [ this is a tribute ] of California Gold. During the mid 1800's, the western United States - specifically, California suffered from a lack of US government produced currency. The reasons for this included a huge influx of people into this region, a huge influx of wealth, in the form of mined gold, and the US governments inability to meet the monetary demands coming from this region of the US. As a result of this shortage of currency, several private jewelers and assay companies began producing their own gold coins. These coins/tokens came in a variety of sizes, gold content values and face amounts unknown. Because these coins were privately minted, their gold content unknown , and we cannot guarantee the specific content of this item.
