1852 California Gold - Larger sized coin/token this is a brilliant uncirculated example of California Gold. During the mid 1800's, the western United States, and more specifically, California suffered from a lack of US government produced currency. The reasons for this included a huge influx of people into this region, a huge influx of wealth, in the form of mined gold, and the US governments inability to meet the monetary demands coming from this region of the US. As a result of this shortage of currency, several private jewelers and assay companies began producing their own gold coins. These coins/tokens came in a variety of sizes, gold content values and face amounts. Because these coins were privately minted, their gold content varies widely, and we cannot guarantee the specific content of this item. This is a great collectible item, and represents a piece of American history. The coin you see is the coin you will receive. Shipped within 24 hours of confirmed payment. Best of luck bidding :-)
