You are bidding on a1856 – 1894 Vintage Antique Douglass Mfg 3/4” Corner Wood Socket Chisel ToolA clean vintage chiselThe Chisel was recently obtained from a sale, exact era is unknown. This is a early corner wood socket chisel, made by the Douglass Mfg. Company, that was in operations from 1856 through 1877. This company has few resources, but I believe was first in operation around 1856 by founder Thomas Douglass. I believe James Swan of Seymour, Connecticut purchased the Douglass Mfg. Co. around 1877, The James Swan Co. continued to use the Douglass Mfg. Co. name through the 1894 era. So with the above in mind, I believe this chisel would be from the 1856 to 1894 with the Douglass Mfg. Co. name. The Chisel is stamped on the upper flat DOUGLASS MFG The chisel is 18 1/8” in overall length and 12 1/4” from the blade tip to the end of the ferrule, the handle is 6” long. The chisel is in good condition, and has been cleaned,….. a New home made handle was fitted and installed,…..As with the vintage of the chisel, there is some normal wear, a few minor dents & dings, and some discoloration, and light pitting spots, all noted from the photos. The chisel is SOLD AS IS with NO RESERVE. e-mail questions before bidding
