Unusual Watch Fob, made from a slice of the First Atlantic Cable, which failed soon after it was laid. The cable was cut into pieces and sold as souvenirs by Cyrus Field and Tiffany & Co. New York. Usually you see the 4" piece of cable souvenirs, but rarely do you see the small slice of cable watch fobs. The cable is encased in what appears to be a gold ring surrounding the edge, with a loop to attach it to a pocket watch chain. It is 16 mm in diameter, and 7 mm thick, and in nice condition.
