RARE 1860 CHEROKEE BIBLE LEAF COLLECTION This rare Cherokee bible leaf Collection was published in 1860 that was the FIRST YEAR that the New Testament was completed and published and distributed to the Cherokee Indians in the Indian Territory shortly before and during the Civil War. The Cherokee nation occupied an area from North Carolina to Georgia , but after 1827 they were forcibly removed to Indian Territory , now Oklahoman. Cherokee is the only American Indian language with syllables devised by one of its won people. Its inventor was Sequoya, a Tennessee Cherokee in whose name the species of redwood tree is names. He devised 86 symbols for sounds in the Cherokee Language.
