Auction Title:1861-O Louisiana SS Republic Seated Liberty Silver Half Dollar NGC AU Description: This auction is for an 1861-O State of Louisiana Issue Seated Liberty Silver Half Dollar recovered from the SS Republic Shipwreck in 2003 by Odyssey Marine Exploration. The SS Republic was a civil war-era steamship that sank off the coast of Georgia during a hurricane in October 1865. The ship was carrying $400,000 in gold and silver coins bound for New Orleans to help rebuild the economy of the South. The coin offered here has a lot going for it, it is an 1861-O which was first struck under the authority of the United States, then when Louisiana seceded it was struck under the authority of the State of Louisiana, and later when Louisiana joined the Confederate States it was struck under authority of the Confederate States. The example offered here was struck during the time period when the State of Louisiana was in control of the mint. The second important thing this coin has going for it is that it has been certified as About Uncirculated (AU) by NGC, one of the highest grades possible for coins recovered from this shipwreck. Included with the coin is the wood display box, certificate of authenticity, information packet, and CD. Free shipping, satisfaction is guaranteed. Important Policies - Please Read Before read more
