W.W. LYMAN" Pat. 1862 ~ 1/2 Gal AQUA Fruit Jar This neat old jar holds 8 cups of liquid to just below the rim. It stands 9- 1/2 " tall and measures 4- 1/2 " wide ( across the base ) with a 2- 3/16 " ( id across the mouth. ) The front is embossed, marked: " PAT D AUG 5 TH 1862 W. W. LYMAN ". The jar has a ground lip with a few nicks along the rim. T are no other nicks, chips, cracks or damage. This has its original metal press down lid which is very rusty and not in great shape as the photos show. The silver color you see are remnants of aluminum foil to the interior of the lid. The jar has a metal rim around the neck that doesn't look to be removable. The neck has a vertical groove presumably for a clamp of some sort? The base is slightly concave with no markings and t are some scuff and scratch marks around the very edge. Looking under bright light with a magnifying glass t are noted some light surface scratches and t on the body of the jar. Nothing glaring or adverse. A nice looking jar with bubbles, straw marks, waviness and rippling. I believe they call this 'whittling'? in the trade. SELECT an IMAGE to ENLARGE.
