VERY RARE Original 1867 TEXAS DOCUMENT SIGNED BY WILLIAM HENRY GASTON one of the most important men in dallas texas history and a hoods brigade officer and confederate civil war veteran (see bio below) . after the war, gaston had a large cotton plantation in anderson county. in 1867 after a magnificent crop, gaston cashed in and moved to dallas. this legal document dated jan. 1867 was the contract between gaston and the african american freedmen families he hired to work the plantation. this contract was for men women and children. they could not leave the plantation without his knowledge or consent. please use closeup scans to read the rules and terms. very interesting. see closeups for names of the freedman families and men who have signed the document with their mark. william henry gaston has signed the document and his brother george has signed as a witness. another witness tippin has signed the document. document measures 7.5 x 14 inches in good condition with light fold lines. a fine addition to your collection . 4.00 shipping.
