Beautiful 1/9th Plate Memorial Tintype of Robert E Lee taken after the War between 1866-1870. The Incredible Photograph is the former Confederate General in Civilian Clothing encased in a Paper Sleeve that seems to be Memorial Drapery. Mr.Lee's Portrait is a bright detailed Photograph set against Deep Black Backing. There is NO Visible Damage to his Photo. The interior Brass Matting is Bright with NO Corrosion. The Red Velvet is Problem Free with NO Fading. The Hand Tooled Leather shows minor signs of ware and an old spine repair which is common with these older cases. The Hook Latch works fine. The Eye Appeal is Exceptional ! This Post-War Photograph of Lee is Unique due to the fact that not many photographs of this Confederate Legend were taken during the last 5 years of his life. The Reverse is Amazing. The Photographic backing states: S. Brady-FERREOTYPEST or ARTIST. Given how unique and Beautiful this Rarity is, I would lean more towards "Artist"....There is no other info as far as where or when this piece was created. Enjoy & Best of Luck !!!
