Stunning Liberty Design by William BarberChief Engraver of the United States Mint William Barber designed both faces of this coin, though the ideas behind them originated from James Longacre. Liberty is depicted in left-side portrait on the obverse. She wears a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name, "LIBERTY." Thirteen stars arch over the image along the rim, while the date, "1877," is inscribed at the bottom. An eagle guards a large union shield on the reverse. Its wings are outstretched, and it holds arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed above its head and is encircled by thirteen stars.Impeccable PF70 UC RD Smithsonian LabelThis coin received the highest grade given out by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), Proof 70 (PF70), which means that it is in perfect condition.
