1880 Ribbon Centennial Kings Mt SC+1930 Anniv. Scrapbk This is a scrapbook of the 1930 Sesquicentennial Celebration of the Battle of Kings Mountain in South Carolina. The 1780 battle was an important win for the colonists in the American Revolution, and was also notable for the use by the Loyalists of the Ferguson rifle, the first breech loading rifle, which was invented by Major Patrick Ferguson, their leader who died in the battle. A confusing point - the town of Kings Mountain, ''gateway'' to the national park of the site of the battle is just across the border in North Carolina.The most special item in the scrapbook is a ribbon from the 1880 Centennial Celebration. It measures 3 1/4 by 6 3/4 inches and reads C.M.C.A. Transportation Committee and shows a soldier holding an American flag and a rifle with a plough in the background. It has a small hole and is coming unraveled at the edges. It also has stains in the corners w it was taped to the inside front cover of the scrapbook. All of the other items are from the 1930 celebration. Pasted on the inside front cover is what looks like original art that was used from the postal airmail cancellation for Kings Mountain.
