You are bidding on an immaculate 1885 CC Morgan Dollar VAM 4 Hot 50 Uncirculated GSA coin. This is one of 7 Carson City GSA coins I purchase through the original auction in 1974. I was fourteen at the time. To purchase these coins, I walked into the local bank; spoke to the vice president and barrowed $313. I can still remember the look on his face when I told him I wanted to take out a loan to bid on these coins. After a little discussion on how I was going to pay back the money, sure enough, I got the loan. The fact that he was one of my paper route customers did not hurt. I believe it took me about 9 months to pay back the loan. Boy, those were the days! Everything you are bidding on is original and in the exact condition as when received. The shipping box is original along with the authenticity card, the display box and the incased coin. Heck, it even comes with the original 40 year old rubber bands that have held the boxes closed all this time. The rubber bands are from when I banded the rolls of newspapers and threw them on the porches or placed them behind the doors. The package has had little handling as it has set in a safe for pretty much of 40 years. I bet I have not had the box out a dozen times. When I did have it out, everything was handled with extreme care. Not one finger touched the facings on the casing. So you can be assured everything is in pristine condition as when received from the GSA. I did not have the coin graded because that costs money. I am trying to bring in much needed money not spend it. And the reason I am parting with the coins from my youth is that my family now needs the cash more than I need the memorabilia. My children will always come first over anything. I collected the coins because I enjoyed doing so, loved the history behind them and thought one day they could be a help. And that day has come not that I am happy or feel good about it. Although the coin has not been professionally graded, I would think this coin is at least a 65 based upon comparisons with other graded coins. It would not surprise me to see it grade higher. It is a very nice 1885-CC GSA Morgan Dollar. The coin is very flashy. The surfaces are very clean. Both sides have a mint luster. All the VAM 4 markings are easily visible. The most noted is the double bar below the second “8” on the date. You can even see it in the photos. My hope is a collector will win this auction that will not only enjoy this beautiful piece of US history but also the history behind a fourteen year olds purchase. I plan on selling all seven of my Carson City GSA coins as well as all the other miscellaneous coins, bills, stamps, bottles, etc. that I have collected as a young lad. So please keep an eye on my auctions. Thanks for looking and a double thanks if you bid. I have had several requests for the dates on my other GSA coins. They are 1880 (2), 1881, 1882, 1883, & 1884. I have not had a chance to evaluate them for markings and VAM category but they are in the same pristine shape as the 1885. I received an email from one of the bidders asking if the case had been opened. Even at the age of 14 when I purchased the coins, I never dreamed of opening the cases.
