To the best of my knowledge, this is a First Edition 'The Family Encyclopedia of Useful Knowledge' printed in 1885. The binding is sound and the outside and inside paper on the cover is in very good condition for it's age. T are 273 amazing pen and ink illustrations and a host of topics relating to the world as it appeared during the U.S. Civil War period. Topics such as 'electricity', the founding fathers, current inventions and perceptions of foreign cultures are fascinating to read. The book was published by F M Lupton, 106 and 108 Reade Street, New York. Bid confidently.
