Rare c 1886 Ansonia Verona 8 Day Mantle Clock w/ Figure we have a rare and unusual c. 1886 Ansonia Verona Open Escapemnt mantel clock with a figure on top. It is pictured on page 286 of Tran Duy Ly book Ansonia Clocks and Watches. The description in the book describes the ornaments as Barbedienne Bronze. The estimated value is $550 in the 2004 price guide. Now onto the clock . The clock runs well and keeps accurate time. The face is porcelain and is marked Ansonia Clock Co Patented. The face may have a very light scratch at the 3 o'clock but otherwise is in good condition . The clock has a heavy brass beaded bezel with beveled glass. The glass has 2 small thumbnail chips at the 7'o'clock. The case is black enameled and has red marbelized pieces , a scalloped base and bronze bands with flowers. T are various floral designs in the enamel surface that are highlighted with gold. The front feet are heavy lion paw feet. The case does have chipping and wear to the enamel and it looks like the top was reenameled at some point. The movement is an 8 day open escapement movement. It is marked on the back Ansonia Clock Co. Patented June 4 81' Patented June 18 1882 5 1/4. It has cased springs. The movement runs well and keeps accurate time. Included is a double ended key and adjustable pendulum. The clock measures 21 1/2" wide , 10 1/2" tall
