RARE 1888 A28 DUKE "THE HEROES OF THE CIVIL WAR"N78/114 SERIES TOBACCO CARD ALBUMAvailable for purchase is a RARE and collectible tobacco card album published by W. Duke, Sons & Company in Durham, North Carolina. The book is designated as album A28 in the American Card Catalog. It was offered to early collectors in exchange for a certain number of Duke cigarettes coupons shortly after its publication in 1888, which was only 23 years after the end of the Civil War. The inside pages contain chromolithographic images of all 50 N78 (booklets) and N114 (cards) from Duke's "Histories of Generals" series. Detailed biographies are included for each of the 50 generals featured (25 Union & 25 Confederate).The album has 30 inside pages, 25 of which feature the generals (2 per page). There is also an introduction page, 3 full-page images of famous battles (Merrimac & Monitor, Gettysburg, Manassas) and a center page with portraits of Generals Grant & Lee. The booklet measures approximately 10 3/8" long and 6 3/4" tall. I purchased this tobacco card album at a recent estate sale.Condition of this collectible tobacco card album is VERY GOOD. All the pages are attached, except for the last one (see photo). The covers are both attached. The front cover has a tape repair on the inside for a small (1/2") tear to the top edge. The rear cover has several read more
