FAIRY TALES From the Collection of Grimm Brothers Translated from the German By Lucy Crane Chicago and New York : Rand, McNally & Company c. 1890 Being offered at auction is a scarce ¾ leather deluxeedition of Fairy Tales from the collection of Grimm Brothers. The volume is undated, but the style of binding suggests the late 19 th century. Scarce collector’s edition. BONUS BOOK : Aesop’s Fables together with the life of Aesop by Mons. De Meziriac. Rand McNally. Deluxe ¾ leather, matching volume to Grimm’s Fairy Tales. CONDITION : c. 1890. Original ¾ maroon leather on attractive red variegated marbled boards. Gilt rule marking edges where the leather meets the board. 4 slightly raised bands on the spine with ornamentation in 3 compartments. Gilt titling is somewhat faded but all quite legible. Marbled endpages matching the covers. Gilt page edges on top. 5 ½” x 7 ¾” tall. 321 pp. Black and red ink fonts on title page. Quality stock paper with rough-cut edges on side margin. Some pages are uncut. Light wear to extremities with corner tips showing a bit of fraying and chipping. Light surface crack on hinge. Boards and all pages holding very well. A scarce collector’s edition. As of this posting we could find no other Rand McNally editions that match this description. BONUS BOOK : Aesop’s Fairy Tales. Deluxe ¾” maroon leather read more
