Massachusetts Temperance Loyal Legion - Co. J - Barnstable Division shield, c1890's. A leader in the Temperance Movement, Massachusetts had organized in to Divisions to promote abstinance. The efforts made here were largely responsible for Prohibition being enacted early in the 20th Century. This shield was made by John Robbins of Boston (hallmark on reverse).
