Stevengraph style bookmark or ribbon from the 1894 California Midwinter International Exposition. Stated : ‘Souvenir ; Of ; Pacific Coast ; Commercial Travelers’ ; Association ; June 30, 1894 ; California ; Exposition ; Administration Building. ; San Fransisco ; 1894’ (Francisco was misspelled). Besides the wording, there is an eagle with the American flag and the woven image of the Admistration Building, also detailing at the bottom. The words “Pacific Coast Commercial Travelers’ Association June 30, 1894” are printed, everything else is woven. ‘Commercial Travelers’ refers to the drummers’ trade (traveling salesmen). Typically, these were called bookmarks and had a tassel at the bottom; this one may or may not have had one. Commonly, these woven silks are called Stevengraphs but by this date, there were many different manufacturers; there is no attribution on this item. SIZE : 2-5/8 x 10-1/2 approximately. CONDITION : see scan; the tiny holes around the edges were probably caused by having been stitched to something at one time.Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
