This is a Russian enamel cup or beaker made for the Coronation of Czar (Tsar) Nicholas II & Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna in 1896. It is also know as the "cup of Sorrows" and others call it the "Khodynka blood cup." To commemorate the coronation, they gave the cups, scarves and food. The people rumored that the cup held a gold coin inside and over a thousand people were trampled trying to get one of the cups. the tragic events were called the Khodynka tragedy.The cups is decorated with the cypher of Nicholas II, date of 1896, and the Romonov two headed eagle crest. There a beaurtiful geometric designs all over the cup. There is gold trim on the top and bottom. With the age of this enameled cup, there is wear, chips and light rust.
