19th c. Retablo Virgen of Carmen This antique South American retablo depicts the Madonna, or Virgen (Virgin) of Carmen holding the Christ Child. The Virgen is wearing brown Carmelite robes and a crown encircled by flowers, and holding her attribute scapula in her right hand. T are two animas solas in the corners, although the one on the right is barely discernable; the one on the left is shown in a detail below. The retablo has lost paint to time, most notably the bottom right hand corner (see detail below). The beautiful depiction of the Madonna is still strong and the retablo is a wonderful Spanish colonial devotional item. Measurements: 6 2/3" x 5" Nomad's Journey offers collectors fine devotional and ethnographic art and antiquities from Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
