You are bidding on a BEAUTIFUL AND FANCY (8 SCALLOPED BRASS) old "good for" style trade token which actually is good for " (GOOD FOR) ONE POUND " at business called " THE OLD DOMINION CRAB COMPANY ", which was located in old NEWPORT NEWS, VIRGINIA. This is a very nice token, and in great shape. The town of NEWPORT NEWS is located in Warwick County Va, part of the Hampton Roads metro region. This is a token I know very little about. I do not own any Virginia exonumia books. Came in a collection of mostly western tokens. THIS IS #2 OF 2 FROM A SMALL COLLECTION OF THESE OLD CRAB TOKENS (LAST ONE I HAVE TO AUCTION) This is a nice old token.. This is what would be called a "picker" token, perhaps used in trade when "ONE POUND" OF CRABS OR SEAFOOD WERE TURNED IN ...many people collect these old tokens with odd denominations...like "ONE POUND" Trade token is brass, 8 lobed, about 24mm in diameter (about size of quarter), and it displays very nicely. (please see pictures in gallery) Token has not been cleaned in any way, this is way I got it. (has strong details) Gallery pictures should give you all the information you need.
