is the second nice 1901 dated model 1892 U. S. Krag bayonet and its original, matching model 1899 scabbard I have to offer. This one also clearly saw action! It is unit marked with a B and 40 done with die stamps and has a smaller NB on the opposite grip that may be die stamped but I tend to think is expertly cut by hand. This one has what is supposed to be the then standard ribbed walnut grips with the slightly proud or overlapping lower edge. The little ribs are worn smooth from use on the sides but clearly show along the bottom. The blade tip shows scoring from being used to dig and the very point of the tip was blunted by the digging use. The locking catch operates smoothly just as it should. The blade retains the arsenal edge and has not been sharpened or altered. The blade and really all the metal is, again, a clean, silver gray with some salt and pepper darker spotting and a thin brown patina in areas. The scabbard is a mix of brown patina and blue turning plum. The scabbard body, scabbard hook and swivel are in good shape, straight and have no dents or other problems with the exception of some small, shallow equipment contact dinglets along the edge read more
