RARE 1902 J.M. Barrie Peter Pan The Little white Bird Description THE LITTLE WHITE BIRD or ADVENTURES IN KENSINGTON GARDENS by J.M. BARRIE 1902 First Edition, First Printing This is a vintage copy of the first appearance of Peter Pan, by J.M. Barrie. It is the first published American edition of this book, FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING . For being 106 years old it is still in fine condition. The top and bottom of the spine exhibit only the most minute shelfwear, the corners are not rubbed. The endpapers are clean and white, a tiny repaired hairline crack in the rear gutter, The text is very clean & white and has no foxing, soiling or tears. BEST OF ALL, t is NO NONE NADA writing anyw in the book!! A highly presentable book in fine condition. 8vo --7-3/4" tall by 5-1/2" wide by 1-1/8" thick. 349 pp. This is truly a rare and unique piece of history that would make an excellent and prized addition to your library . The top page ends are in gold gilt. The initials of the designer, Evelyn W. Clark, are in gold gilt, on the bottom right corner of the front board. The story of Peter Pan originated in this book, And if you read the title page of the widely known "Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens" (with all the tipped in color plates) It says "From the Little White Bird". As acclaim for the Little White Bird and the idea of Peter Pan grew, Barrie further devoloped the idea into "Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens" which was published in 1906 with 50 color tipped in plates, in London by Hodder and Stoughton and simultaneously in New York by Charles Scribner's Sons. Barrie later further developed the story line in " Peter and Wendy", published in 1911 in London by Hodder and Stoughton and simultaneously in New York by Charles Scribner's Sons. These books laid the story line foundation for all the plays, movies, cartoons, ect. that we have grown up with and loved, and Pan has become iconic in American culture. You can find copies of this book selling at Ebay and elsew online for $300 to $1,000.00 This Book would make a fine adittion to any Barrie collection or library collection in general. It is in very good, which is getting very hard to find. It is an excellent investment as it will only keep appreciating in value, as the 1906 edition Of Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens by Hodder & Stoughton has reached market values up to $20,000. This Book is NOT ex-library and has NO remainder marks. This book was printed by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, 1902. It has green buckram boards with gold gilt printing and designwork on the front and spine. The top page edges are gold gilted.
