Scarce in this first edition - BURMA - PAINTED AND DESCRIBED, by R. Talbot Kelly. Published in 1905 by A & C Black. Contents: Rangoon, amenities of Rangoon, across the Yomas to Taungdwingyi, life in a Burmese market town, jungle life at Kokogon, through the forest to Pyinmana, one thousand miles up the Irrawaddy (Rangoon to Prome), one thousand miles up the Irrawaddy (Prome to Bhamo), two capitals, some other towns, a month on the Lashio line, camping in the northern Shan states, the Burman. Profusely illustrated with 75 gorgeous full color, full page illustrations including a frontispiece showing the shrine on the platform of the Shwe Dagon pagoda, plus a fold-out map at the back showing the route. Hardcover, 271 pages. Very handsome elaborately illustrated binding (by Albert Angus Turbayne) with gilt titles and red and green, peacocks in decorative arches and elaborate designs on the front and on the spine. Very good condition, very slight fraying at top of spine, spine slightly faded, every so slightly starting to loosen where copy block joins top of spine. SCARCE.
