This is a 1908 presidential campaign pin button for William Howard Taft.The button is off white with a brown pebbled suitcase in the center, on which is the image of Taft. The words "I'm Somewhat of a Traveling Man Myself" are around the edges of the button. This button measures about 7/8" in diameter. There is slight wear to the front surface and a couple of small rust spots at the top edge. Moderate rust to the back metal, that I can see. Pinback is not a stick style but has a loop that it hooks underneath at the open end. The front of the button is probably celluloid. The insert on the back side is from the Ohio Badge Co., Columbus OhioThis button was for William Howard Taft's campaign for U.S. president in 1908 or 1912. Taft served as President Theodore Roosevelt's secretary of war from 1904-1908. Having pledged not to run for a third term, Roosevelt groomed Taft as his successor. Taft and his running mate, James S. Sherman, won with 321 electoral votes to 162 for William Jennings Bryan and John Kern. Taft ran for re-election in 1912 but lost to Woodrow Wilson.Taft was born in Ohio in 1857 and attended Yale University and Cincinnati Law School.
