Up for auction is a 1910-15 A.J. Reach Co. Philadelphia Full Web Baseball Glove Left Handed that is (Distressed). I moved into my grandparents house 22 years ago. I was raking leaves out from under a porch and this old glove came out with the leaves. It had been laying on the dry dirt since my grandpa, or a dog, left the glove there. It amazes me that it survived as well as it did. That says a lot for the chemicals that were used in tanning leather back in the day. My grandpa DAN, printed his name on the back strap. My grandpa was born in 1900 so its easy to do the math that he would have been playing ball somewhere around 1908-1915 and using this glove then. The Key Stone Reach Logo black cloth label that is sewn onto the back strap is in good condition. Gloves from 1900 to 1915 had sewn in webs known as "full webs". These webs were sewn directly to the thumb and forefinger. It weighs .87 lb., and is 9" wide by 9" tall and the web is 2" tall. - This old glove must have been laying face down on the dirt, as the front surface of the leather is much rougher. It is still soft and supple. Between the little finger and it's neighbor finger, there is a small wear hole. Surface of the front of the thumb has several cracks. Right front side of the glove has some surface chips. Fleece lining is still intact and pretty dirty as well. Strap read more
