A 1914-15 Star correctly impressed to: 8314 P TE . C. M CCABE, R.SCOTS & a Victory Medal correctly impressed to: 23220 CPL. C. MCCABE, K.O.SCO.BORD. Despite the different regiments on each medal, this is the same man. 23220 Corporal Charles McCabe of the 2nd Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers was killed in action in France on 19th May 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. He was born & enlisted at Edinburgh. He has two separate Medal Index Cards. One for his 1914-15 Star which shows that he landed in France on 19th December 1914 with the 1st Battalion Royal Scots & was subsequently discharged from the Army. His other Index Card shows his British War & Victory Medal entitlement as a Corporal with the KOSB. Both Index Cards are cross referenced to each other & the Index Card for the 14-15 Star shows that his BWM & VM were issued from Medal Roll "D/105B9" which is the Roll reference quoted on his BWM & VM Index Card, so definitely the same man. Looks like he chose to re-enlist after being discharged from The Royal Scots. A brave man indeed. The medals are in good average condition. There are some discolouration spots to the front of the Victory Medal. Sorry, there are no ribbons. I will provide copies of his Index Cards to the winning bidder.
