Up for auction is this incredibly rare divided back, real photo postcard of a group of Boy Scouts. The scouts are posed in front of a sign that reads Bellshill & Mossend Troop, and two of the group are holding up the flag of the United Kingdom. The postcard is embossed William A. Leitch Photographer, Bellshill. The postcard was not mailed However, the style of dress of the two men not in uniform is consistent with the 1920s, as is the style of the postcard. Also, the First Bellshill & Mossend Scout Group was not organized until October 1919, so most likely the card was produced circa 1920.On the back of the card is written King Scouts – Scotland, and the name Ed Owen. Because of the notation on the back of the card, it is not clear to me if this is a photo of the Bellshill& Mossend Scout Group, or a photo of that year’s King Scouts (a great honor in Scouting) posing in front of the Bellshill & Mossend sign.As you can see from the scans, the 5.5” x 3.5” card is in fair condition. There is some edge wear and soiling, and the photograph is slightly faded. This card would make a great addition to your Boy Scout, Scottish Scouting, or real photo collection. As with most real photo postcards the card may be one of kind, and certainly there can’t be many other copies in existence. However, I am starting the auction at a low opening bid, read more
