1929 $20 MS63 PCGS. The 1929 Saint-Gaudens double eagle is the first of the celebrated "late-date" Saints, the last five issues of the series, all major rarities because of the Gold Recall of 1933. The 1929 is actually the most available date of this group in absolute terms, although it is more challenging than both the 1931 and 1932 in high grade. David Akers estimates 175-230 coins have survived in all Mint State grades. The present coin is an attractive Select example, with sharp details and vibrant, frosty mint luster. The surfaces are a vivid greenish-gold color, and show few abrasions for the grade. Visual appeal is quite strong, and we expect spirited bidding when this lot is called. Grade: 63, Service: PCGS, Service No.: 9190, Issue Date: 1929, Denomination: $20
