1930s Tremo Recognition Identification Tabletop 1/1200 Scale Waterline Metal Model. HMS Calcutta . Royal Navy Light Cruiser of the "C" Class (13 in class). Cast metal and painted model manufactured in the late 1930s by Tremo (Treforest Mouldings Ltd, Treforest Trading Estate, Pontypridd, South Wales, United Kingdom ). The Company logo moulded into the underneath of the model is an "M" crossed by a "T". Scale 1/1200 (one inch equals one hundred feet). Length of model 4.5" inches. For the period, this is a very accurate tabletop recognition model depicting the appearance of this Warship in the late 1930s. The original price of this model is listed as 1/9d (One shilling and nine pence). The "C" Class were completed 1917-1922. Some gave service in WW1 (Cassandra was mined and sunk). Some were reconstructed into AA Cruisers just before WW2. All gave extensive service in WW2. Cairo and Calypso sunk by Italian Subs. Calcutta, Coventry and Curlew bombed and sunk by German aircraft. Curacao rammed and sunk by the liner Queen Mary in October 1942. The rest were scrapped in the late 1940s. Condition: Grey & Tan enamel paint. Very fine original condition with all gun barrels and details complete and no wear to the paint. Has all the wire cross parts to both masts. Generally a superb example.
