Vintage campaign booklet for the 1938 re-election campaign of Georgia Senator Walter F George (1878-1957) who served in the senate from 1922 until his death. 9" by 4" paper cover, 12 pages. Booklet specifically targets veterans, printed in red and blue with photo of the candidate on the front and a photo on the center pages showing representatives of Georgia Veterans groups paying Senator George's $350 entrance fee for re-election that they had raised as a show of gratitude for George's support of veterans in the state of Georgia. Some slight staining of the paper caused by the rust from the staple binding the booklet, cover torn on the fold line and faintly soiled. George was a graduate of Mercer University and Mercer's law school was formerly named the Walter F. George School of Law. George was a segregationist and is the first name signed on the document known as the Southern Manifesto, which opposed Brown vs. Board of Education -- the Supreme Court decision that determined the segregation of public schools was unconstitutional. The law school's new sign left off his name. When asked about the change, Mercer University said the decision was based upon rebranding its schools named after individuals.
