Up for auction is this vintage American Legion School Award, in the form of a medal, for New York County. It is still in its origial presentation box. The award is quite different from others I've seen on Ebay. The reverse side is marked "1/15-10K RP" and a stylized "JK". The latter is apparently the logo for the jeweler who made, or assembled, the presentation piece. The box has the same logo marking, plus the name "Jack Kantor, Jeweler, 41-43 Maiden Lane, New York City". In pencil, someone marked the date June 26, 1938, inside the top of the box. Overall height is about 3", and the metal section alone is about 1 1/2" high by 1" wide. It is in excellent condition and has probably been sitting in someone's drawer for decades. The box has done its job in protecting the medal, which shows in its condition. It's a hinged top box and is still fully intact. However, all 4 corners of the top half have split and there is a lot of edge wear and general soiling. This was an estate find, so I know nothing else about this beautiful combo. My picures are always of the actual item(s), so please use the pictures to verify what it is being offered, as well as condition. Consider the pictures as a vital part of the description.
