This photo when at air base Ibsley England,. Ibsley opened in 1941 when incomplete. Allocated to the Eighth Air Force as a fighter station, its first US occupants were the 71st and 94th Squadrons of the 1st Fighter Group, equipped with P-38s, from August to October 1942 . Info from American Air Museum . c o mThis auction for a vintage WWII photo from an airman with the USAAF 1st Fighter Group WWII photo albums he put together in 1946. He was with the 94th Squadron. Some photos I left on the gray album paper, others I peeled off the page. He used the fairly new at the time dry mount heat adhesive tissue, (sold by Kodak). If not on the page the back of the photo has the tissue & album paper residue on the back. It is not sticky.I have not found his name yet. some of his buddies are ID'd.. He had an article about the 1st Fighter Group at the beginning of the album. When relative to the photo I have one of pages along with the cropped info referring to the photo.. This is not included with the photo, just for reference. He did write in the album the locations of the photo when he moved but nothing else.Photos start out in CA when they flew out from Selfridge Field two days prior to Japanese Attack at Pearl Harbor. Remaining P38s & P-43s flew out next day..Next photos are in June 1-10 1942 Iceland, then Goxhill & moved to Ibsley England, read more
